Samrat Prithviraj box office collection Day 8: Akshay Kumar's film fails to mint money

Samrat Prithviraj released on June 3. The Akshay Kumar-starrer is not doing well at the box office.

Akshay Kumar's film Samrat Prithviraj released in the theatres on June 3. It is now struggling to maintain its hold at the box ofice collections. The period drama has failed to impress the audience. Samrat Prithviraj registered a sharp drop at the box office on Day 8, June 10. After a low-key opening with just Rs 10.70 crore, the film has managed to earn just Rs 56 crore till now, according to early estimates.

Samrat Prithviraj, written and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, is based on the life and times of Rajput emperor Prithviraj Chauhan. It opened to mixed reviews in the theatres. The film witnessed a slow start on the first day, and recorded further drop ever since. As per early trade reports, Samrat Prithviraj didn't manage to mint much money at the box office on Day 8, June 10. It's single day earning was just Rs 1.70 crore reportedly. Hence, the total domestic box office collection would now stand at Rs 56.75 crore. Meanwhile, Samrat Prithviraj had an overall 11.72 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday, June 10. It remains to be seen how it fares on its second weekend now.

On Day 7, June 9, Samrat Prithviraj had earned a total of Rs 55.05 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had written on Instagram, "#SamratPrithviraj is rejected... The heavy budget on one hand and the poor outcome on the other, has sent shock waves within the industry... Fri 10.70 cr, Sat 12.60 cr, Sun 16.10 cr, Mon 5 cr, Tue 4.25 cr, Wed 3.60 cr, Thu 2.80 cr. Total: 55.05 cr. #India biz (sic)."

The superstar will essay the role of the legendary warrior who fought courageously against Muhammad of Ghor. Manushi Chhillar plays King Prithviraj Chauhan’s beloved, Sanyogita. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood. Samrat Prithviraj released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on June 3.
