S.M. Krishna’s funeral: Shivakumar inspects site in Somanahalli

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar inspected the site in Somanahalli in Maddur taluk identified for the funeral of former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, who passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Mr. Krishna’s last rites will be performed in his native place Somanahalli in Mandya district’s Maddur taluk with full State honours at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
Mr. Krishna’s mortal remains will be taken from his house in Bengaluru at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and will be brought to Somanahalli. Enroute, the public will be allowed to pay their respects at Kengeri, Bidadi, Ramanagaram and Channapatna, said a statement issued here.
The body will later be brought to a vacant plot of land belonging to him near Somanahalli Cafe Coffee Day in Maddur taluk on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and kept there from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the general public to pay their last respects.
Mr. Shivakumar, who was overseeing the funeral arrangements, was accompanied Minister for Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy, who is also the Minister in charge of Mandya district, MLC Dinesh Gooligowda, and MLAs Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, Ravikumar and K.M. Uday.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Kumar, Superintendent of Mandya district police Mallikarjun Baladandi and Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Tanveer Asif also inspected the site.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the site, Mr. Shivakumar hailed Mr Krishna as the “architect of modern Karnataka”.
