Russian soldiers allegedly raped women in war-torn Ukraine, several reports claimed. Recently, a Ukrainian MP said a probe had been launched after a woman filed an official complaint.
A Ukraine MP said early Wednesday that an investigation was launched to probe claims of a Ukrainian woman who alleged rape by a Russian soldier.
Ukraine MP Inna Sovsun said in a tweet, "Prosecutor General of Ukraine opened the first official investigation of the rape of a Ukrainian woman in Brovary district committed by the Russian soldier."

Earlier, several reports had quoted another Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko saying that there were reports of "Russian troops on the outskirts of Kyiv sexually abusing senior citizens who were unable to flee as Russian armour descended on their towns".

Lesia Vasylenko said many female “senior citizens” had committed suicide after they were sexually abused, in a bid to escape the violence.
"Others were so vulnerable they could not escape," she said while accusing Russian forces of raping women over 60 years old before hanging them.

Women are treated in the new penal code as being on the same level as "slaves", with provisions allowing either "slave masters" or husbands to administer discretionary punishment, including beatings, to their wives or subordinates. This aspect of the code has drawn particular alarm from rights groups.
