Putin advisor quits Russian govt to register protest against Ukraine invasion

Russia-Ukraine war news updates: Anatoly Chubais, Russia's special envoy for relations with international organisations for sustainable development, has quit the government. Chubais was a vocal dissenter against President Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine.
In the highest-ranking defection yet over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a prominent advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin resigned from the government on Wednesday and reportedly left Russia.
Anatoly Chubais was the Kremlin’s special envoy for relations with international organisations for sustainable development. According to sources, Chubais’s resented Putin’s war on Ukraine, reported Bloomberg News.

Although Chubais’s whereabouts aren’t confirmed, he was reportedly seen at an ATM in Turkey. According to certain media reports, Chubais was sighted in Istanbul. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov confirmed that Chubais had resigned from the government on Wednesday. However, he refrained from confirming if Chubais had left Russia.
“Yes. Chubais has resigned voluntarily. And it is up to him whether to leave or not,” Peskov was quoted as saying by Interfax news agency.

Chubais was reportedly not a particularly influential member in the government. He had no say in security affairs. However, his resignation is sure to make some noise in a country where he is widely known.
