Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday (February 14, 2025) announced that the party would organise a protest on February 20 demanding that the State government conduct caste-wise census in Tamil Nadu.
In a statement, Dr. Anbumani said the support for a caste-wise census was growing and that the State government was behaving as though it did not care about protecting the 69% quota in place in Tamil Nadu.
“If a country or a State has to grow, then every community should grow. Even if one community falls back in terms of development, theen the growth of the State will be affected. An equitable growth should be ensured for all communities,” he said.
Dr. Anbumani said that a caste-wise census was necessary to preserve social justice and equality in Tamil Nadu. “Caste-wise census should be conducted to safeguard 69% reservations in Tamil Nadu. But the DMK government is refusing to do it while neighbouring States like Telangana have conducted it and decided to increase its reservation from 50% to 66% through a law in the first week of March. Yet, the DMK government keeps saying the State has no powers to do it,” he said.
