Peela Srinivasa Rao elected as Visakhapatnam Mayor, promises focus on sanitation, street lighting, and public health.
Corporator of Ward 96 and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) floor leader Peela Srinivasa Rao has been elected as the new Mayor, during a special meeting organised at the GVMC office here on Monday. The election was conducted by the Joint Collector and Presiding Officer Ashok Mayur.
The senior leader from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was the sole contender for the position. Mr. Srinivasa Rao submitted a B-form as a candidate representing the NDA for the Mayor election. His nomination was proposed by Visakhapatnam South MLA Vamsikrishna Srinivas Yadav and seconded by Visakhapatnam North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju. A total of 74 members, including ex-officio members and corporators, were present. As the required quorum was met and there were no other contestants, Presiding Officer Mayur Ashok officially declared Mr. Peela Srinivasa Rao as the Mayor.
Mr. Peela Srinivasa Rao becomes the second TDP candidate to become Mayor of Visakhapatnam. Earlier, Mr. D.V. Subba Rao was the Mayor from TDP during 1992 to 1997.
After taking over as the Mayor, Mr. Peela Srinivasa Rao thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM K Pawan Kalyan, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, ex-officio members and corporators for giving him the opportunity. He said that he will be always available to the citizens. He said that sanitation, street lighting, public health, proper drinking water supply will be some of his top priorities.
