Parvathy Thiruvothu slams Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan over inaction on Hema Committee report

Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu has publicly criticised the Kerala government’s handling of the Hema Committee report, mocking the administration’s delay in implementing reforms promised more than five years ago. Her remarks came after it was reported that the police plan to close the remaining cases registered on the basis of statements recorded in the committee’s findings.

Sharing her frustration via an Instagram story, Parvathy tagged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and wrote: “Now can we focus on the actual reason this committee was formed? Putting policies in place to help make regulations in the industry? What is happening with that? No rush, eh? It’s only been five and a half years since the report was submitted.”

The police have cited the unwillingness of several complainants to pursue legal action as the reason for dropping the cases. Of the 35 cases initially registered by the special investigation team, 21 had already been closed. Reports indicate that the remaining 14 are also likely to be withdrawn in the coming weeks.

The Hema Committee was constituted to investigate widespread issues in the Malayalam film industry, particularly those affecting female actors. It was formed in the wake of several public allegations of sexual harassment and mistreatment, including the high-profile 2017 actress assault case that sparked national outrage.

Following the report’s submission, around 40 related complaints were lodged at various police stations. Of these, 30 cases have reached the chargesheet stage, with prominent names such as Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Siddique, and director Ranjith among those facing legal scrutiny. Proceedings in those cases are ongoing.
