Oscars 2022 In Memoriam section forgets to pay tribute to Lata Mangeshkar, Dilip Kumar. Fans smell 'colonialism'

Oscars 2022: At the 94th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles today, March 28, the makers forgot to pay tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and actor Dilip Kumar. This has now baffled the fans.

The In Memoriam section of Oscars 2022 paid a tribute to artists and filmmakers of the global film industry who died last year. The segment, however, failed to honour the memory of two iconic Indian legends who passed away recently — actor Dilip Kumar and singer Lata Mangeshkar. This has angered the fans on social media. While Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7 last year, Lata di breathed her last on February 6 this year. Both of them had significantly contributed to the Indian cinema through their acting and music.

Fans took to Twitter to express their anger and bafflement. One wrote, “I was actually expecting #LataMangeshkar to be mentioned in the #Oscars In Memoriam. But well (sic).”

Another user blamed it on colonialism and wrote, “The amazing world-record-setting #LataMangeshkar (who passed away from Covid) sang more songs for more movies than shown in all Oscars combined. Yet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on (sic)”
