Ramanathapuram District Judiciary raises awareness on gender sensitisation and violence against women with Madras High Court Judge.
Ramanathapuram District Judiciary organised a day-long awareness programme on gender sensitisation and elimination of violence against women at the Government Law College on Saturday.
Madras High Court Judge Justice A. D. Jagadish Chandira, member of the Madras High Court’s GSICC committee, said that when a woman was treated properly and equally we can say that the country has made progress.
“We have developed a mindset on how a woman should be. We have to come out of that mindset. The bias against each other should go and everyone should be treated equally. Countries which practice this have a good rating on the happiness index”, he said.
Ramanathapuram Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon said that progress is not measured by economic growth alone but also includes dignity, respect and safety for every individual irrespective of gender.
Violence against women is a failure of humanity. With incidents of violence against women and discrimination being reported everyday, it has become a global concern. India has come up with progressive legislation. Awareness programmes in all institutions were necessary so that awareness was created among the youth, he said.
He said that schools and colleges have been told to keep drop boxes so that complaints can be received and appropriate action can be taken on the complaints. Women play a major role in everyone’s life and should be treated with respect, he said, emphasising on the collective consciousness of society in carrying values forward.
Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh said that a society where there is no respect for women, women’s rights and women’s protection will not go forward.
