National Seed Corporation delaying green manure seed supply: Minister

Government starts green manure seed sale in 20 districts, facing delays in remaining 12 due to insufficient supply.

HYDERABAD

Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao has stated that the government has commenced the sale of green manure seed in 20 districts. In the remaining 12 districts it is yet to be taken up as the National Seed Corporation has supplied only 1,000 quintals seed out of the 40,000 quintals indented.

In a statement, the minister said on Monday that the government had planned in advance to supply the green manure seed for the Kharif season and accordingly indented 90,000 quintals from Telangana Seeds Corporation and another 40,000 quintals from National Seed Corporation by allotting 20 districts and 12 districts, respectively.

While the Telangana Seeds had supplied 71,535 quintals so far and positioned in the districts allotted to it, the National Seed Corporation had supplied only 1,000 quintals so far, delaying the commencement of sale in the 12 districts allotted to it. With early rains getting recorded across the State the government had decided to take up green manure seed sale in the 12 districts too.

The TG Seed had commenced supply in 10 out of the 12 districts too so that the farmers could go for timely sowing of the green manure seed before taking up the sowing operations of regular crops. At the same time, the Telangana authorities had spoken to the National Seed Corporation officials and requested them to supply the indented quantity of the green manure seed in time.

Besides, the authorities had also taken efforts to arrange additional seed of green manure by the TG Seeds, the minister added.
