Murshidabad police personnel were transferred following violent protests against Nupur Sharma's Prophet remark.
Following the controversy over the Prophet remarks, the officer in charge of local police stations in Murshidabad district was transferred on Friday.
Khurshid Alam, the officer in charge of the Islampur Police Station, was transferred to the Rejinagar Police Station, while Anjan Barman, the officer in charge of the Rejinagar Police Station, was transferred to the district's police line.
Meanwhile, Nirmal Das, sub inspector (SI) of Domkal Police Station, was appointed officer in charge of Islampur Police Station, and police officer Kawsar Hossain Mandal was transferred to Domkal Police Station.
The decision was made just a few days after protesters caused a commotion in Murshidabad district. Rajinagar was one of the most tense areas.
Earlier, inspector in charge Somnath Bhattacharya of Nakashipara Police Station was also transferred in the wake of violent protests that erupted in Nadia on June 12 (Sunday). He has been shifted to Bidhannagar Commissionerate. In his place, Biswajit Ghosh of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate took charge. The transfer was announced on Tuesday evening. The change is believed to be due to unrest in Nakashipara on Sunday.
Incidentally, a few days ago, a local train was stone pelted at Bathuadahari railway station in West Bengal's Nadia district. Police officers were also transferred to Howrah during the protests.
