Minister inaugurates stormwater drain works in Salem Corporation

Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inaugurates stormwater drain projects in Salem Corporation to enhance local infrastructure and amenities.
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for construction of stormwater drain in Ammapet and Hasthampatti zones in Salem Corporation.
The Minister participated in the ceremony held at Ward 32 in the Ammapet zone and Ward 4 in the Hasthampatti zone and inaugurated the construction works for stormwater drain.
Addressing the media, the Minister stated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is providing various schemes to improve the infrastructure and basic amenities in the local bodies and ensuring equal development for all local bodies. On Tuesday, stormwater drain works at a cost of ₹10 lakh were inaugurated near the Gandhi Statue and Bose Maidan (Ward 32), which will direct stormwater to pass into Thirumanimutharu. He added that stormwater drain work was also inaugurated at Kanakkupillai Street (Ward 4) at a cost of ₹8 lakh, utilising the 15th Central Finance Commission fund for 2025-26. An additional stormwater drain at Molapattiyam Vattam (Ward 4) at a cost of ₹13 lakh was inaugurated as well, the Minister said.
Later, the Minister participated in the function held at Periyar University in which Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the Naan Mudhalvan University Operation Centre (NMUOC) through video conferencing.
In these functions, District Collector R. Brindha Devi, Salem Corporation Mayor A. Ramachandran, local body representatives, and officials from departments concerned participated.
