Marathi filmmaker Sumitra Bhave dies at 78 in Pune

Sumita Bhave, whose film Kaasav won the Swarna Kamal at the National Awards, has died. The filmmaker breathed her last at a Pune hospital on Monday (April 19).

Sumitra Bhave, renowned Marathi director and writer, died at 78 in Pune. The filmmaker was reportedly battling lung-related ailments and was under observation at a private hospital in the city. Many prominent celebrities from the Marathi film industry took to social media to pay their respect to the late director. Bhave is known for films like Kaasav, Samhita, Astu, Welcome Home, Vaastupurush, Dahavi Fa and Devrai, among others. Marathi director Sunil Sukthankar, who won the Swarna Kamal at the National Awards with Sumitra Bhave for their film Kaasav, informed the media that the filmmaker died in a Pune hospital on Monday following lung-related ailments.
