Man performs C-section on dying turtle to save its eggs, shares story on viral Twitter thread

A man from Michigan, USA, saved a dying turtle and her eggs after performing a C-section on her. He documented the heartwarming story on a viral Twitter thread along with pictures.

A heart-touching story of a man saving the life of a dying turtle and its eggs is going viral on the Internet. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan in the US, Eric C Martens came across an injured turtle in his neighbourhood, who was searching for a place to lay her eggs. He then rescued her and the eggs by performing a C-section. In a viral Twitter thread, he revealed that he placed the eggs in a substrate and incubated them. I brought her home, did a secondary euthanasia just to be sure and then my best attempt at a turtle C-section, which revealed 7 perfect eggs (attached picture) that I placed in substrate and started incubating (2/4). While I was getting the eggs out, a massive storm came through, undoubtedly what motivated her to leave the water that night. In the viral story about the turtle and its eggs, the first tweet in the viral Twitter thread read, “This story starts sad but has a happy ending: In early June I got out of my car coming home from work to help a turtle cross the road in our neighborhood, only to find that a careless driver had already hit and killed her. Figuring she was searching for a place to lay eggs (sic).” The man also shared a photo of the eggs.
