
Madras HC advocate files complaint on RBI staff for not standing up during Tamil anthem on Republic Day

Madras HC Judge G Rajesh filed a complaint against RBI officials for not standing up when the Tamil anthem was played in the RBI Chennai office during the Republic Day celebrations.
Madras High Court advocate G Rajesh has lodged a police complaint against Reserve Bank of India officials who reportedly did not stand up for the Tamil Anthem during Republic Day celebrations.
The complaint has stated that the officials misinterpreted an order passed by Justice GR Swaminathan.
A commotion broke out on Republic Day when RBI officials did not stand up for the Tamil Anthem, claiming that the Court had said that there was no need. However, when onlookers informed them about the state government’s order, the staff walked away.
State Finance Minister PTR Thiagarajan and I&B Minister Mano Thangaraj have condemned the issue.

The matter pertains to a petition filed by one Nikhil Kumar Punia, who was born into an upper-caste Hindu family but supposedly converted to Buddhism later. He, along with another General Category candidate, has sought minority reservation benefits for admission to a Buddhist medical college on grounds of their purported conversion.
