The State Health Department on Tuesday issued an advisory on HMPV after a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Reiterating that HMPV is a common and self-limiting virus, Ansar Ahmed, State Project Director (IDSP), said testing for HMPV is not necessary unlike COVID-19. “People are advised not to spend money on testing HMPV unnecessarily. We have apprised the Chief Minister about the virus and its existence since 2001. However, the Health Department will take up continuous surveillance and spread awareness,” he said.
Meanwhile, five cases of HMPV were detected in children and treated in Shivamogga since August last year. While one case each was detected on August 14, September 28 and November 4, two cases were detected on September 12. All the five have recovered and been discharged, officials said.

“Judicial time is a valuable public resource. Every frivolous or misconceived invocation of constitutional jurisdiction results in diversion of time from genuinely deserving litigants,” said the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court while imposing a cost of ₹50,000 on a man from Theni district who filed a petition with an unusual prayer: permission to conduct daily protests till the ‘World War’ ends.
