IAS officer Somesh Upadhyay shared a picture of an anti-mosquito racquet on his Twitter profile and wrote a caption regarding India's historic win at the Thomas Cup 2022.
History was created when the India badminton men’s team lifted the Thomas Cup in Bangkok. Netizens didn’t hold back while congratulating the team for their fantastic win against 14-time champions Indonesia. However, an IAS officer’s tweet regarding the achievement has garnered the Internet’s ire.
IAS officer Somesh Upadhyay shared a picture of an anti-mosquito racquet on his Twitter profile. “Indonesians are surprised how Indians got better at badminton than them,” he wrote in the caption. The picture of the appliance that he posted is generally used in households to kill bugs. Evidently, netizens didn’t take the tweet well.

People blasted Upadhyay for the tweet and called it ‘disrespectful’ and ‘cheap’. Many were of the opinion that the tweet demeaned the historic achievement by the India team.
