A Lamborghini driver has been booked for performing dangerous stunts at Anil Kumble Circle, raising road safety concerns in Bengaluru.
The Cubbon Park Traffic Police have registered a case against a Lamborghini driver after a video showing him performing dangerous stunts at Anil Kumble Circle on M.G. Road went viral on social media.
Police sources said the incident unfolded between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Saturday (March 21), even as patrolling vehicles were nearby. In the video, a white Lamborghini car is seen arriving at Anil Kumble Circle, performing a stunt and subsequently doing “donuts”, i.e. circling, at the junction.
The high-end car then proceeds towards Tonique Circle, makes a U-turn, and heads towards Trinity Junction, according to police sources. The incident came to light after an onlooker filmed the act and shared the footage on social media platforms. Several users reshared the video, demanding police action.
A senior police officer told The Hindu that a suo motu case was registered soon after the incident came to light and that a search operation has been launched to trace the vehicle.
The Cubbon Park police have booked an FIR under Section 281 of BNS, 2023, which deals with rash and negligent driving on public roads that endangers human life or safety. They have also invoked Section 184 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which covers dangerous driving, including speeding, jumping red lights, using handheld devices, and unlawful overtaking.
The incident has raised road safety concerns given the busy nature of the junction, located in the Central Business District. However, no accidents were reported. The police said they have been maintaining vigilance over such incidents and have taken strict action against drivers in the past as well.
