Farmers and CPI (M) protest for better compensation in Dindigul ring road project, demanding fair payment for acquired lands.
More than 100 farmers and CPI (M) functionaries staged a protest in front of Dindigul Collectorate on Monday demanding better compensation for the lands being acquired for a ring road project in the district.
As part of the ring road project connecting Tiruchi, Natham and Madurai Highway, lands were being acquired in Mullipadi, Periyakottai, Alapparimedu, Arasampatti, Vellode, Adiyanuthu and Thootanuthu villages in Dindigul district.
The farmers said that about 100 acres of land was being acquired for a stretch of about 19 km. Without adequate compensation for the lands acquired for the project, the work for the project was going on, they said.
They said that earlier the authorities had promised them appropriate compensation after assessment. However, the authorities have reneged, they said. The farmers raised slogans and demanded that appropriate compensation be paid to the farmers for the lands being acquired for the project. The farmers and the CPI (M) functionaries submitted a petition to the Dindigul Collector.
