
Economic crisis: Sri Lanka closes embassies in Norway, Iraq and Consulate General in Australia

Sri Lanka has decided to temporarily close down its embassies in Norway, Iraq and its Consulate General in Australia as part of restructuring the crisis-hit nation's diplomatic representation overseas, following the economic crisis.
Sri Lanka on Tuesday announced its decision to temporarily shut down its embassies in Norway, Iraq and its Consulate General in Australia from April 30.
As per statement issued by the Sri Lanka foreign ministry, the decision to close down embassies was taken after 'careful deliberation' and is a part of the general restructuring of Sri Lanka's diplomatic representation overseas.

The restructuring was taken up by the foreign ministry in the context of current economic situation and foreign currency constraints faced by the country, the government said in a statement.
