
‘Dr. Badrinath’s concern for humanity was boundless’

Dr. Badrinath's legacy in eye care highlighted by colleagues at Sankara Nethralaya, emphasizing his dedication to patients and innovation.
“Dr. Badrinath bridged the gap between research, publication, clinical practice, and education,” said M.S. Ravindra, chairman and managing director of Karthik Netralaya, on Saturday. He was delivering the second Dr. S.S. Badrinath Endowment Oration at Sankara Nethralaya.
Recounting his journey with Dr. Badrinath, he said he was an excellent surgeon and his concern for humanity was boundless. “He created an institution through research, lateral thinking, innovation, and training,” he said.
Dr. Ravindra said Dr. Badrinath firmly believed that quality eye care was not a privilege but a right. “He was an excellent intracapsular cataract surgeon. He was extremely meticulous,” he added. He kept the patients informed about everything that happened, even the shortcomings, he recalled.
Prathap C. Reddy, founder and chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, in a video message, recounted his association with Dr. Badrinath. “His major aim was to prevent blindness in the country,” he said.
T.S. Surendran, chairman of Sankara Nethralaya, Girish Shiva Rao, president, G. Ramachandran, honorary secretary, Medical Research Foundation, Pramod Bhende, director, Vitreo Retina Department, and Vineet Ratra, senior consultant, Comprehensive Ophthalmology Services, were present.
