Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, along with Joint Director of Agriculture Samad Patel and other senior officers from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, visited a few red gram fields in Kalaburagi, Aland, and Afzalpur taluks on Thursday and took stock of crops that were destroyed by wilt disease.

Taking note of the crop withering due to the disease, she that her administration had taken measures to ensure that farmers would get the insurance amount immediately.
“A district-level meeting was held on Wednesday to discuss issues related to crop insurance. As many as 2.03 lakh farmers have opted for insurance for red gram, black gram, green gram, cotton, soybean, and other crops in the district. IFFCO-Tokio insurance company was directed to pay the insurance amount of ₹76.94 crore to the affected farmers under the localized calamity category,” she told the farmers.
Mr. Patel advised farmers water the drying crop or take measures to cover the exposed roots to preserve the available moisture in the field.
