A cross consecrated at a private land on a hillock in Kattingeri-Kudremale of Moodubelle village under Shirva Police station limits in Udupi district was found destroyed on Friday.
Udupi Superintendent of Police K. Arun said there are no houses around the cross. The nearest house is about 1 km down the hillock. People have to trek about 10 minutes from the base to reach the top and pray before the cross.

The Shirva police have registered a case in this connection under Sections 299 (Deliberate and malicious acts that insult or attempt to insult the religious beliefs) and 353 (2) (Statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
