Railway Protection Force coordinates with cab authorities to regulate traffic around Chennai Central railway station, proposing new designated pick-up points.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Tuesday held a coordination meeting with various cab aggregators to decongest and regulate vehicular movement in and around Chennai Central railway station.
The meeting was held by D. Madhusudhan Reddy, Inspector, RPF, with representatives of various cab aggregator agencies— Ola, Uber, Fast Track, Namma Yatri, Rapido, and Red Taxi—at the VIP Lounge of the railway station.
Station director Manjunath, chief commercial inspector Srinivasa Rao of Southern Railway, Traffic Inspector of Flower Bazaar Dinesh and Southern Railway officials were also present.
During the meeting, the RPF Inspector explained the current challenges related to traffic regulation in and around the station premises and stressed the need for strict adherence to traffic rules. To ease traffic flow and minimise congestion, designated pick-up and drop-off points were proposed.
As per the proposal, drivers of cab aggregators should use pickup points opposite Moore Market Complex, Platform Ticket Counter and Gates 4 and 5, and drop-off point adjacent to Metro Entry 2 via Poonamallee High Road before the signal.
Additionally, the entry and exit routes of the railway station were discussed to streamline vehicular movement. All agency representatives in attendance promised their full cooperation and agreed to comply with the revised traffic regulations, Mr. Reddy said.
“We are constantly deploying our men to prevent autorickshaw drivers from canvassing passengers inside the premises. We are imposing fines besides booking cases. With the help of the City Traffic Police personnel, we clear traffic on Wall Tax road during peak hours so that motorists can enter the premises for departure or pick-up,” he said.
