Tamil Nadu Coconut Growers’ Association demands compensation, crop insurance, and fair price distribution for coconut farmers.
The Tamil Nadu Coconut Growers’ Association staged a protest here on Monday seeking intervention on a war footing to deal with the disease-hit coconut plantations, among a raft of other demands. The members also demanded a compensation of ₹10,000 a tree, and field visits by experts to address the disease.
The protesters also demanded a universal crop insurance scheme for all farmers, subsidy for farm implements, pesticide sprayers using drones and coconut tree climbing implements. They also wanted the government to procure copra from farmers and include distribution of coconut oil through fair price outlets under the Public Distribution Scheme.
The association also demanded elimination of irregularities in the Prime Minister’s farmers income scheme, and ensure all farmers receive ₹6,000 as income assurance under the scheme.

After being repeatedly disrupted for three consecutive days over issues ranging from the Governor’s address and alleged disrespect to the national anthem to demands for the resignation of the Excise Minister, among others, normalcy finally returned to the Legislative Council on Friday, with proceedings commencing.
