T.N. CM Stalin inaugurates 11 arts and science colleges
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday (May 26, 2025) virtually inaugurated 11 State-run arts and science colleges in as many districts — namely, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Cuddalore, Dindigul, Perambalur, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, the Nilgiris, Thoothukudi, Tiruvarur, and Villupuram. They are set to function from academic year 2025-26, and will take in over 3,000 students every year.
The new arts and science colleges have been set up at Cheyyur in Chengalpattu district, Alandur in Chennai district, Panruti in Cuddalore district, Natham in Dindigul district, Kolakkanatham in Perambalur district, Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, Tiruvidaimaruthur in Thanjavur district, Coonoor in the Nilgiris district, Ottapidaram in Thoothukudi district, Muthupettai in Tiruvarur district, and Vikravandi in Villupuram district.
Each of these colleges would offer five academic programmes and take in over 9,000 students in three years, an official release said. With these 11 new colleges, the total number of State-run arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu has risen to 176.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin; Ministers Govi. Chezhiaan and T.R.B. Rajaa; Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam; and senior officials were present on the occasion at the Secretariat.
