Chhello Show will end India’s Oscar drought, hopes actor Dipen Raval | Interview

Chhello Show is India’s official entry to the Oscars 2023. Actor Dipen Raval hopes that it helps Indian cinema finally win an Academy Award.

Chhello Show is India’s official entry to the Oscars 2023. The Film Federation of India announced the same on Tuesday, September 20. Following this, several celebrities congratulated those associated with the Gujarati movie. In an interview, actor Dipen Raval said that this is an achievement for Gujarati cinema and may help India end its Oscar drought. He plays the protagonist’s father in the flick.

The Film Federation of India on Tuesday, September 20, selected Chhello Show as India’s official entry to the Oscars. Actor Dipen Raval told IndiaToday.In that he is happy about the development.

"This is dream come true for me. I am extremely happy as (for) the first time a Gujarati movie is the official entry for the Oscars. A very proud moment for the Gujarati film industry" added the actor.

Dipen Raval, who is settled in Ahmedabad, played the role of Samay's father in the Gujarati movie. He revealed that the cast and crew knew during the shoot itself that this movie was going to go miles and it was going to be very different from others. Raval started his career around 25 years back. He is a pharmacist but always to pursue a career in acting. He is currently part of Gujarati TV serials and theatre.

Raval, speaking about the film, said, "While making this film we knew this is something different. In movie I play the role of Samay's father. In the movie initially, I oppose Samay going and working for film industry. But later I realise my son was right. It is (about a) very interesting relationship of father and son."

He added, "The film is about when I take my son to watch a movie and after that his entire life changes. He wants to catch that light from the projector."

Talking about working on Chhello Show, he revealed that once lions walked onto the sets. He also said that they shot in heavy rain.
