Former Union Minister Chinta Mohan criticises BJP government for not giving former PM Manmohan Singh proper last rites.
After Congress leaders in the country denounced the Central government’s decision to cremate former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Nigambodh Ghat, a public cremation ground in New Delhi, former Union Minister Chinta Mohan said it is unfortunate that last rites of a man, who is credited with bringing the country out of an economic crisis in the 1990s, were not done at a designated burial site.
Addressing a press conference here, Dr. Chinta Mohan alleged that the BJP government insulted the former Prime Minister and that it owed the country and the family of the former Prime Minister an apology. He said that Manmohan Singh was credited with implementing the job guarantee schema and mid-day meals scheme across the country. The credit for providing 27% reservation of OBCs in jobs and education goes to Manmohan Singh, he said. He recalled his association with Dr. Singh and the circumstances leading to his selection as Prime Minister.
Later, criticising the Telugu Desam Party-led NDA government in the State, Dr. Chinta Mohan said no Dalit was happy under the coalition government’s rule and that people are living in an illusion that Amaravati would be built. He alleged that teachers who retired five years ago were yet to get their pensions. Supporting journalists, Mr. Chinta Mohan said the government should give 5 cents to each of them.
