BJP MP launches Chhath Puja preparations at Yamuna’s banks despite DDMA ban

BJP MP Parvesh Verma on November 7 asserted to defy the ban on Chhath at Yamuna’s banks and challenged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to stop him
on November 8 performed rituals and launched preparations for Chhath Puja at the Yamuna Ghat near the ITO in New Delhi despite a ban by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority to perform it on the river’s banks.
The West Delhi parliamentarian, accompanied by BJP workers and members of the ‘purvanchali’ community, attended a ‘puja’ and began preparations for the festival that started on November 8.
People belonging to some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are referred to as ‘purvanchalis’.

“Judicial time is a valuable public resource. Every frivolous or misconceived invocation of constitutional jurisdiction results in diversion of time from genuinely deserving litigants,” said the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court while imposing a cost of ₹50,000 on a man from Theni district who filed a petition with an unusual prayer: permission to conduct daily protests till the ‘World War’ ends.
