Visakhapatnam police recover ₹66 lakh in property from 54 arrested in February, solving 62 crime cases.
The city police cracked 62 property offence cases reported in February, arresting 54 persons and recovering property worth ₹66.86 lakh.
Addressing a press conference at the police conference hall on Wednesday as part of the monthly crime review, Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi said special teams were formed to probe the cases using technical tools and a multi-angle investigation approach.
He said all 62 cases were detected and property worth ₹66,86,598 was recovered. In addition, police traced 301 missing, stolen or lost mobile phones valued at ₹45.15 lakh. The total value of recovered property stood at ₹1.12 crore.
The detected cases included one murder for gain, two house break-ins during the day, 24 house break-ins at night, three snatching cases, nine motorcycle thefts, three auto thefts, one van theft and 19 cases of ordinary theft.
Mr. Bagchi said the recovered property comprised 1,791 grams of gold ornaments, 6,144 grams of silver ornaments, ₹7.57 lakh in cash, nine motorcycles and three autorickshaws.
On preventive measures, he said 239 CCTV cameras were installed across the city during February, while 198 crime awareness meetings were conducted. Police educated the public on different types of crimes, criminal behaviour and the importance of CCTV surveillance in prevention and detection.
