Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurates the 74th All India Police Football Championship in Hyderabad, emphasizing sports' role in policing.
Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, inaugurated the 74th B.N. Mullick All India Police Football Championship 2025–26 at Gachibowli Stadium, highlighting the critical role of sports in strengthening police personnel both physically and mentally.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said sports are not merely recreational but form the “lifeblood” of effective policing, fostering discipline, teamwork and resilience. He noted that such qualities are essential for police personnel to meet the demanding nature of their duties.
The championship, being hosted in Hyderabad, has brought together police teams from across the country, promoting camaraderie and healthy competition among forces. The Governor also expressed hope for increased participation of women personnel in future editions, emphasising the importance of inclusivity in the forces.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy said the event was a matter of pride for the state and described it as a platform that reflects unity and cooperation among police forces nationwide. He underlined that skills demonstrated in football, such as strategy, endurance and quick decision-making, are directly relevant to policing.
Several senior police officers and officials were present at the inauguration, marking the start of the national-level championship in the city.
