AR Rahman hosted a musical wedding reception for his daughter last night, June 10. It was attended by several popular singers.
AR Rahman's daughter Khatija Rahman got married to audio engineer Riyasdeen Shaik Mohamed in May this year. The music composer had taken to Instagram to share the happy news and also posted a family picture from the nikah ceremony. On June 10, AR Rahman hosted a wedding reception for his daughter in Chennai. It had several of Rahman's industry friends and colleagues in attendance. Some artists also performed live on stage during the musical evening.
AR Rahman's daughter Khatija and Riyasdeen Shaik Mohamed got engaged on December 29. The couple got married in an intimate nikah ceremony in May. Their wedding reception was held last night. The musical evening also turned out to be a reunion for several actors, singers, musicians and filmmakers. Manisha Koirala, filmmakers Mani Ratnam, Shekhar Kapur to singers Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Javed Ali, Abdu Rozik and musicians Shivamani, Jatin Pandit attended the function. Honey Singh and Sonu Nigam were among those from the music industry who attended the wedding reception and blessed the bride and groom. Sharing a picture from the night on Instagram, Honey Singh wrote on Instagram, “Best wishes to the blessed couple and congratulations to the whole AR RAHMAN sir’s families and fans!! @arrameen @arrahman (sic).” For her reception, Khatija wore a purple lehenga while Riyasdeen looked dapper in a black suit with a bowtie. AR Rahman was in a kurta-pyjama paired with a blue jacket.
Filmmaker Sandeep Singh also shared a video from the musical evening. The venue was lit up in blue and peach tones as artists took to the stage for a live performance.
A video from the wedding reception also shows singer Abdu Rozik singing the song, Papa Kehte Hain Bada Naam Karega on stage with AR Rahman watching him. It ends with Rahman shaking hands with Abdu who was all decked up in a sherwani and a traditional cap.
