On the day of Amit Shah’s controversial ‘speak Hindi instead of English’ remark, AR Rahman shared a picture of Thamizhanangu (Goddess Tamil) on Twitter, along with a line written by modern Tamil poet, Bharathidasan, which reads, “Beloved Tamil is the root of our existence.”
AR Rahman’s image of Thamizhanangu has also gone viral on social media. He posted the image at 11 PM last night and since then, the post has received nearly 13,000 retweets.
World renowned music composer AR Rahman is known for his preference to speak in Tamil over any other language. In fact, when he won two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire, AR Rahman finished his speech with the words, “Ellapughazum Iraivanukue” [All praise goes to God].
On the day Home Minister Amit Shah made a comment saying people of different states should talk in Hindi not English, AR Rahman shared a picture of ‘Thamizhanangu’, (Tamil Angel). It featured a woman adorned in white clothing with her hair open, dancing while wielding a spear.
