Ahead of the film's release, Neha Dhupia sat down for an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in where she opened up about playing the role of a pregnant cop, working amid the Covid-19 pandemic and life at home with a new baby.
Excerpts from the conversation:
You play a pregnant cop in A Thursday. Tell us more about your character and what inspired you to play this role?
I was in a space where I was actually getting back to work. I was in the midst of choosing scripts, so this was a film that came my way that time. I always wanted to do a thriller and play a cop but I didn't put it out there. In fact, I did not sign up to play a pregnant cop. The second wave happened and I was pregnant with my daughter and Behzad (Khambata, director) was nice enough to cast me when I told him that I was pregnant. I asked him what he wanted to do, since physically I was different. He very subtly replied that it's okay, cops also have babies. That's when I got re-hired.
Did you have to do any kind of preparation for your character? What went behind it?
My accent is very similar to what I am speaking and my physicality was also similar because I was 8 months pregnant. I couldn't have changed that. We did a lot of readings though. That was the only preparation we put into it. Apart from that, we just learnt using a gun and the correct posture while firing a rifle. At the end of the day, just do it with conviction and that's what matters.
