445 students absent as 35,257 appear for Class 12 language paper in Coimbatore

Over 35,000 students sat for the Class 12 language exam in Coimbatore, with 445 absentees reported.
As many as 35,257 students appeared for the Class 12 language paper examination in Coimbatore district on Monday (March 2, 2026), while 445 students were absent.
The Class 12 public examinations for the academic year 2025–26 began on Monday and will continue till March 26. A total of 35,712 regular students from 365 schools are scheduled to write the examinations at 130 centres across the district. Of them, 19,344 are boys and 16,368 are girls. In addition, 852 private candidates are also taking the examinations.

District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar inspected the examination centre at Siddhapudur Corporation Higher Secondary School on the first day. He later told reporters that 14 question paper custody centres have been set up with round-the-clock armed police security.
Question papers are being transported to centres under armed escort through 37 route officers. After the examinations, answer scripts are being collected and handed over at designated collection centres under police protection.
For the conduct of the examinations, 130 chief superintendents, 130 departmental officers, 2,522 invigilators, 300 static and flying squad officials, and 260 office staff have been deployed. Teachers have been appointed as scribes for 343 students. Separate rooms have been allotted for students with disabilities, and uninterrupted power supply and basic facilities have been arranged at all centres.
