Zoho's Sridhar Vembu urges rebuilding, revival of villages: Time to go back
India Today
Zoho Chief Scientist Sridhar Vembu emphasised the quiet decline of villages in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur, urging a return to rebuild communities and revive local opportunities.
Zoho Chief Scientist Sridhar Vembu shared his thoughts on how villages in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district had been steadily losing people, talent, and cultural anchors over the years, and called for a shift back towards rebuilding these communities.
In his X post, he pointed out that over the last four decades, several villages in the region had seen abandonment, with even temples and homes left unattended in several places.
Referring to a post by another user who described driving through stretches with barely any locals around to maintain historic temples, Vembu said the trend pointed out a deeper issue tied to migration and generational shifts.
“It is time to go back,” he wrote, emphasising the need to reinvest in native places.
He also spoke about his own efforts, sharing that his organisation was setting up an office and building a campus near Kumbakonam. In addition, he mentioned funding Vali Aerospace, a drone startup based in Tanjavur, as part of a broader attempt to create opportunities locally.
“A lot more has to happen,” he added, suggesting that such efforts were only a starting point.
