
West Bengal: Two universities to conduct offline examination

Two universities in West Bengal have decided to conduct offline examinations.
Two university authorities have announced that they are going to conduct undergraduate and postgraduate examinations offline this year, four days after the issuance of a circular by the West Bengal Education department which left the decision to choose the mode of student assessment to the discretion of the institutes. For the last two years, all educational institutions in the state have been conducting examinations online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) Vice-Chancellor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, informed that the varsity’s executive committee took the decision to conduct the examinations offline after taking various aspects into consideration.
He further added that undergraduate examinations are going to be conducted on May 18, whereas post-graduate examinations will be conducted from June’s first week.
When asked about the agitation staged by some distance learning courses students asking for the exams to be conducted online, he told the news agency PTI, “They have already appeared for one paper without any hiccup. We are sure there won’t be any problem on the other days, too.”
Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das also informed that the examinations are going to be conducted for all streams.
The Jadavpur VC further clarified that as far as modalities regarding the holding of exams are concerned, the university will follow the recommendations made by a committee that was set up to take a call on such matters
An official further said that the varsity’s undergraduate council is going to meet on May 20 to discuss the matter.Presidency University authorities also gave a similar response.
