UPSC to release provisional answer key immediately after prelims from 2026
India Today
The Centre said UPSC will release provisional answer keys shortly after prelims from 2026. The move follows a Supreme Court judgement and aims to improve transparency.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will release the provisional answer key for the civil services preliminary examination immediately after the test is conducted, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha.
The decision is expected to bring more transparency to one of the country’s most competitive examinations.
The civil services examination is conducted annually in three stages, preliminary, main and interview, to recruit candidates for services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS).
Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, in a written reply, said the UPSC has framed guidelines to publish the provisional answer key on its official website after conducting the preliminary examination. This will be implemented from the 2026 civil services preliminary examination onwards and will apply to all structured examinations conducted by the commission.
The minister clarified that while the provisional answer key will be released after the exam, the marks of the preliminary examination will only be made public after the declaration of final results.
This means candidates will be able to check the correct answers soon after the exam but will have to wait until the entire selection process is completed to know their scores.

Students who appeared for the Bihar School Examination Board Class 12 exams can now access their results through multiple platforms, including the India Today Board Results page for smoother and quicker access. With heavy traffic expected on official websites, this alternative option ensures students can check their scores without delays or technical glitches.
