Water level in Mullaperiyar dam stands at 118 feet

The water level on Monday in Mullaperiyar dam stood at 118 feet (permissible level is 142 ft) with nil inflow and a discharge of 300 cusecs. In Vaigai dam, the water level stood at 53.67 feet (maximum level is 71 ft) with an inflow of 105 cusecs and a discharge of 72 cusecs. The combined storage in Periyar credit was 3,763 mcft.
In 2021, five women from Mayithara, four of them MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers, found a common ground in their desire to create a sustainable livelihood by growing vegetables. Rajamma M., Mary Varkey, Valsala L., Elisho S., and Praseeda Sumesh, aged between 70 and 39, pooled their savings, rented a piece of land and began their collective vegetable farming journey under the Deepam Krishi group.
