Virudhunagar district excels in family planning surgeries, with Kanniseripudur PHC ranking second in Tamil Nadu for female sterilisation.
Virudhunagar district has bagged the top position in Tamil Nadu in performing most number of family planning surgeries in 2023-24.
Besides, the Primary Health Centre at Kanniseripudur in the district has stood second among all Primary Health Centres in Tamil Nadu in female sterlisation.
Joint Director (Medical and Rural Health Services), Dr. N. Babuji, and Block Medical Officer, Dr. P. Arokiya Ruben Raj, got the shields from Health Minister, Ma. Subramanian at a function held in Chennai recently.
Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan appreciated the officials of health department for their achievement.
The Collector said that the Government Hospitals and Primary Health Centres in Virudhunagar district had performed a total of 4,129 family planning surgeries in the last one year.
The Kanniseripudur PHC has done sterilisation to as many as 354 mothers in one year.
The Joint Director said that instead of going for fixed date sterilisation programmes, the Government Hospitals in Aruppukottai and Rajapalayam had been taking up family planning surgeries on all days.
