Vijayapura police registered a case against a dental college student on charges of posting a `pro Pakistan’ and `against India’s interest’.

Vinod Dodamani, police sub inspector, filed a suo-motu case against Tashahud Farooqui Sheikh, a BDS student of Al Ameen College, for her social media message. He was prompted to see her message after a Facebook page `Veeru Kichhu in Karnataka that said that there were several Pakistan lovers in Vijayapura’. He accused her of posting a message to disturb India’s unity and sovereignty.
On her Instagram account, Ms. Sheikh’s message said “To my Pakistani friends: People of IOJK, AJK. Avoid going near military, government installations. If you are leaving close to the 200 km border Radius. Please move inland. May Allah protect us all from India, Ameen’‘. It had a SOS tag and an image of the Pakistan flag.
The suo- motu case against the student lists offences under some provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita including -152. Act endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India,
197. Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration, and 3(5) When a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all, each of such persons is liable for that act in the same manner as if it were done by him alone.
The student, however, apologised later and described her comment as `foolish’.
