
UGC announces regulations for academic collaboration between Indian and foreign higher educational institutions

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed top Indian universities to collaborate with foreign universities to offer training, joint, and dual degree programmes.
UGC on dual degree programmes: The University Grants Commission (UGC) said on Monday, April 20, 2022, that the top Indian universities can now collaborate with foreign universities to offer joint training and dual degree programmes. The announcement was made by the UGC Chairman, Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar, during a virtual interaction with the media.
As per the UGC Chairman, the regulation covers three different types of programs, namely training, joint degrees, and dual degrees.

According to the amendments, students could have study abroad experience while taking a course in India. These steps will benefit the Indian students and fulfill the vision of the National Education Policy by helping them with quality education for the students.
The UGC Chairman further shared that Indian and foreign higher educational institutions need to sign an MoU to establish collaboration for the joint and dual degree programmes.
In the case of joint degree programmes, degrees will be provided by the Indian higher educational institute. However, degrees can be provided by both Indian and foreign educational institutions in the case of a dual degree programme.
