Two men assaulted a 66-year-old woman in Salem; one arrested, police search for the second suspect.
Two persons have been accused of sexually assaulting a 66-year-old woman in Salem on Saturday (March 14, 2026) night. One of them has been arrested, and the police are on the lookout for the other.
According to the police, the woman, a resident of Gorimedu under Salem Corporation limits, was sleeping outside her home on Saturday night when the two men, reportedly in an inebriated state, threatened her at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her at around 1 a.m. They then fled the scene. The woman on Sunday (March 15) went to a private hospital in the locality for treatment for her injuries and informed the authorities of the incident, the police said.
Her relatives alerted the Kannankurichi police, who conducted an investigation and identified one suspect, Ravikumar, 26, a resident of Jallikadu in Gorimedu. On Monday, the police arrested him and are on the lookout for the other suspect, who is absconding.
The case has been transferred to Ammapet All Women Police, and further investigation is under way.
