Cash totaling ₹3.10 lakh seized without documents in Perambalur during Tamil Nadu Assembly election surveillance operations.
With the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in force in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) seized ₹3.10 lakh in cash which were being carried without any documents in separate instances in Perambalur district on Monday (March 16, 2026).
Flying squads and SSTs were constituted on Sunday evening in the district following the announcement of the date of Assembly election for Tamil Nadu by the Election Commission of India. One of the SSTs, while carrying out vehicle checks in the early hours on Monday at the Veppanthattai bus stop, found ₹1.10 lakh in cash being carried in a car without relevant documents. The car was on its way to Swamimalai in Thanjavur district from Salem. The cash was seized and handed over to M. Anitha, Revenue Divisional Officer/Returning Officer of Perambalur (SC) Assembly constituency.

In the second incident, another SST, while conducting vehicle checks at Perambalur four road area around 7 a.m. on Monday, found ₹2 lakh in cash being carried in a car without proper documents. The car was on its way from Paravai to Thondamanthurai. The confiscated cash was handed over to Ms. Anitha later, an official release said.
