Discover the benefits of consuming naturally grown roots and tubers at the two-day Tuber and Root Vegetable Fair in Hubballi.
A two-day Tuber and Root Vegetable Fair in Hubballi organised by Sahaja Samrudha in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Hubballi began at the Mujagam Conference Hall of Moorsavir Mutt in Hubballi with Member of Legislative Assembly Prasad Abbayya inaugurating it on Saturday.
Inaugurating the two-day event, Mr. Prasad Abbayya elaborated on the benefits of consuming naturally grown roots and tubers saying that it helped in protecting one’s health.
He called upon people to incorporate tubers and roots in their diet to maintain good health and promised to extend a helping hand in organising such events aimed at promoting healthy food.
Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami emphasised the need for the government and organisations in promoting and popularising the healthy foods.
Deputy Director of Research and Extension of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Laxman Kukanur said that sweet potatoes, introduced in India by the Portuguese, originated from Africa and come in yellow, red, white and purple varieties.
“Rich in Vitamin C, potassium and beta-carotene, they enhance immunity and help combat severe diseases like cancer. Value addition of tubers can bring economic benefits to farmers,” he said.
Director of Sahaja Samrudha Krishna Prasad said that at a time when vagaries of nature are causing losses to farmers, tubers, which can withstand climate variations, are a beacon of hope for North Karnataka farmers.
