Suburban train services on the north section of Chennai, towards Gummidipoondi, were affected on Friday (December 20, 2024) morning due to the snapping of a high-voltage overhead power line near Ennore.
A senior official of the Chennai division of Southern Railway said the high-voltage electricity wire, between Ennore and Athipattu Pudhu Nagar railway stations, snapped and fell near the tracks at around 7.50 a.m.
Officials of the Korukkupet Government Railway Police alerted the station master at Ennore, after which suburban and express trains proceeding in both directions were stopped near the Ennore railway station.
After the maintenance staff of Tangedco repaired the power line at around 10 a.m., local and express train services were resumed.
Train services were affected for nearly two hours, causing five suburban trains, both from and towards Gummidipoondi, to run late.
