Traffic police arrested 495 motorists for drunk driving over the weekend in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri.
A total of 495 motorists were held in separate drunk driving checks conducted over the weekend by the traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates.
In Hyderabad, 239 persons were arrested during a two-day special drive conducted on Friday and Saturday (March 27 and March 28). Of them, 190 were two-wheeler riders, 18 were three-wheeler drivers and 31 were four-wheeler and other vehicle drivers. During the week from March 23 to March 28, a total of 403 drunk driving cases were disposed of in courts under the Cyberabad commissionerate, all resulting in fines.
Between March 22 and March 28, courts disposed of 492 drunk driving cases in the Malkajgiri commissionerate. Of these, 30 offenders were awarded fine and jail, seven were levied penalty along with social service, and 455 were penalised with fine only.
As per data shared by the police, a significant number of other violations were also recorded, including 10,267 challans for wrong-side driving, 8,026 for obstruction of carriageways, 2,095 for triple riding, 1,504 for overspeeding and 1,384 for using mobile phones while driving.
