World Environment Day campaigns in Thoothukudi and Kovilpatti raise awareness on plastic pollution and environmental conservation.
On occasion of World Environment Day, an awareness campaign was conducted by the Sakthi Vinayagar Hindu Vidyalaya CBSE Senior Secondary School, Thoothukudi with theme named “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The campaign aimed to educate the public on the harmful effects of plastic and the need for environmental conservation. As part of the initiative, awareness activities and saplings distribution drives were carried out in key areas of Thoothukudi city, with participation from teachers and volunteers.
On behalf of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University College, Nagampatti, World Environment Day celebration was held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Kovilpatti. Samuel Chellaiah, Regional Director of NSS for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Nicobar Islands delivered the special address at the event. He emphasises the eradication of plastic, which poses a severe threat to the planet. More than 200 students participated in the event.
The World Environment Day celebration at the Agricultural Research Station in Kovilpatti was held under the theme of “Let’s end the usage of plastics”. Students from E.V.A. Vallimuthu High School, scientists from the research station and farm workers participated in the event. Professor and Chairman of the Research Station Pakkiyathu Saliha, addressed the gathering and spoke about the threat posed by plastic products to the land, water and wildlife.
