Apple will soon turn 50 years old. And it seems that CEO Tim Cook has planned a celebration to mark this feat. Here is what he said.
On April 1, 1976, Steve Jobs cofounded Apple Computers with Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne. The Cupertino giant is now one of the world’s most valuable companies, as it reaches its 50th anniversary. And it appears that Apple CEO Tim Cook has something special in store for this occasion.
According to Bloomberg, Tim Cook recently hinted at his plans for Apple’s 50th anniversary during a discussion with employees. The Apple chief claimed that he had been spending quite some time contemplating what this means for the company. He said, "I've been unusually reflective lately about Apple because we have been working on what do we do to mark this moment.”
Cook, who has been part of Apple since 1998, was handpicked by Steve Jobs. The Apple CEO promised that he will have a celebration to mark the company’s 50th anniversary. He added, “When you really stop and pause and think about the last 50 years, it makes your heart sing. It really does. I promise some celebration."
Tim Cook succeeded Steve Jobs as Apple CEO in 2011. Since then, Cook has helped the Cupertino giant grow multifold in market value, from roughly $350 billion to over $4 trillion today. However, at 65, it appears that Cook is planning to retire soon.
During the discussion, Cook reportedly said, “I spend a lot of time thinking about who’s in the room five years from now, 10 years from now. I am obsessed with this — who’s in the room 15 years from now.”
Previous reports indicate that the Apple CEO will likely remain on the company’s board as Chairman. It is believed that John Ternus, Apple’s head of hardware engineering, is likely the frontrunner in the race to replace Tim Cook as the new CEO.
