Tiruchi Divisional Railway Manager M.S. Anbalagan, and Chief Project Manager of Gati Shakti Unit in Tiruchi Division Naseer Ahmed, who accompanied the Union Minister during his inspection visit to the junction on Thursday, said that the work was progressing as planned and assured him that it would be completed within the stipulated time frame.
Apart from reviewing the progress of work taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at a cost of ₹12.37 crore, the Minister evaluated key aspects of the redevelopment, including station layout improvements, modernisation of passenger amenities, and the implementation of advanced safety measures.
Additionally, he engaged with passengers to gather feedback on their experiences and expectations from the upgraded station and addressing the media, the Union Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to modernising railway infrastructure under the ABSS.
The redevelopment work at the Thanjavur Railway Junction, which records a daily footfall of 20,000 with 31 Mail/Express and 21 passenger trains passing through/commencing their journey from this junction, includes improvement to the circulating area, gardens, platform shelters, and parking facilities. The station entrance area has been expanded from 29 sq. m. to 182 sq. m. and the redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2025, according to an official release.
